Cape Thoroughbred Sales
Terry Andrews of Sorrento Stud said on Monday: “I’m not exaggerating when I say we have a super draft consigned to the CTS Ready To Run Sale this year. We’ve got eight two-year-olds listed and they’re all nice, every one of them!”
Andrews is especially fond of Sorrento’s pair of Captain Of All colts and he commented: “This stallion is producing high quality horses. We have Lot 10, Chief Officer, a smart colt and again, I mean that! He’s a true Ready To Run type, he’s from a mare by Fanatic Dane whose three foals to date are all multiple winners.
“The other Captain Of All is Lot 74, Sullenberger, named after the airline captain who landed a Boeing on the Hudson River. “He’s a very impressive first foal born from Free As A Bird, by National Emblem.”
The first Sorrento graduate comes up early, as Lot 2. She’s a daughter of Elusive Fort from a well-related mare by Spectrum. “Her name us Elusive Rain, she’s racy, she has a good action.”
Lot 52 is the first of two Oratorio colts, named Etched In Blue for being a son of the young mare Blue Train from the family of Jacaranda Blue and State Blue. “He’s not as forward as the Captain Of All colts, but he moves very well, he’s worth a look,” said Andrews.
Lot 82 is Oratorio’s son Optimum, bred from a mare by Hennessy. “This one is not the biggest, but he is robust and looks like a sprinting type who will come early,” assessed Andrews.
Next is Lot 103, a filly by Pathfork, who continues to impress at stud. “We own her with Dr Ian Heyns, she came to us a bit late but she looks very nice, with a good action.”
The draft is completed by Lot 111, Nugetorix, by Vercingetorix from Nu, by Saddler’s Wells. “This is rare blood for South Africa and he’s a big, strapping colt that should be well liked at the sale,” Andrews said
