The 2019 Breeze Up sale returned a set of figures very much on a par with the remarkable 2018 renewal. Out of the 145 horses on offer, 114 sold setting the clearance rate at 78%.The average price remained also identical, only a fraction below €130,000 while the overall turnover reached €14,797,000. An eloquent sign of the growing international stature of this sale was the 8 juveniles who sold over €500,000 today in Europe, from a total of 11 at all European breeze up sales so far this year. American Pharoah colt for €1,100,000ARQANA ring went quiet when Laurent Benoit from Broadhurst Agency offered €1.1 Million for a son of Triple Crown Winner consigned by Grove Stud, lot 21.The pedigree of this bay colt on his maternal line features the top class stallions: Leroidesanimaux, Cacique, Champs Elysees, and Dansili. Laurent Benoit who acquired this colt on behalf of M.V Magnier, commented: « He was bought for Coolmore partners. We had an order to get a very nice colt, the best colt of the sales, to go to Andre Fabre, who came yesterday and was happy with the horse (...) He was very well prrepared by Grove Stud (...) It will be first American Pharoah for Andre Fabre and he is delighted with that ».
Two Lots by No Nay Never sold over €500.000€A protracted bidding battle took place for Lot 134, a daughter of No Nay Never from the draft of Willie Browne’s Mocklershill, and Kerri Radcliffe had to shell out €575,000 to see off the opposition. The bay, who hails from the family of Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner WUHEIDA, turned many heads in her breeze.« I have bought her for Peter Leidel and George Bolton, who were both into LADY AURELIA [a daughter of No Nay Never’s sire Scat Daddy], so this filly has a bit of pressure on her shoulders, Radcliffe joked. She will go to a new trainer in Joseph O’Brien. We loved her breeze and she is obviously by a very hot sire. I had seen her few times in Ireland and she has developed exactly as I thought she would. »Having been outbid on Mocklershill’s Sea The Stars filly, Jamie McCalmont and Ralph Beckett were back at it for a daughter of No Nay Never, Lot 18, from the family of dual Group 1 winner RECOLETOS, which they ultimately secured for €500,000.« She is for a new client who is new to the business and is setting up a long term breeding operation under the name Westerberg, said McCalmont. Ralph will train her. We love No Nay Never. She did a great breeze and vetted well, we were very taken by her.The filly offered by Jim McCartan’s Gaybrook Lodge Stud provided a handsome return, having been bought for €80,000 at last year’s August Yearling Sale. »
Lot 151, Lope De Vega colt to new client of David Simcock’sNewmarket trainer David Simcock, bidding alongside Jamie Spencer, had to wait until the final half hour of trade to take a horse home, but it came in the shape of a €700,000 Lope De Vega colt from Grove Stud. He is out of the Group-winning juvenile QUAD’S MELODY, who has already produced the Gr.1 Sussex Stakes scorer HERES COME WHEN.« We have been trying several times at other sales and today so it is nice to finally get our hands on a horse, said Simcock. This horse is a lovely athlete by a proven sire and out of a proven broodmare. He is the first one I have bought for a new client. »Two fillies by Kingman over €600.000Lot 6, the athletic grey filly offered by Mocklershill attacted interest from all around the ring. It was Anthony Stroud who took a bid of €800k for this daughter of Kingman, the sire of black typed Persian King and Calyx.She is out of Serena’s Storm who also produced RIZEENA, the double Gr.1 winner Coronation and Moyglare Stakes. After signing the tip Anthony Stroud commented:« She is very attractive and did a very good breeze. She will stay in France to be trained by Andre Fabre ».Neil Drysdale to train €300,000 Exceed And Excel fillyShawn Dugan stood alongside Paul Shanahan to do the bidding on lot 132, an Exceed And Excel filly from the draft of Yeomanstown Stud. She is the first foal out of a half-sister to the Group winning juvenile DOLLED UP, from the close family of Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches heroine PRECIEUSE and Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup scorer EQTIDAAR.« She is a gorgeous mover with a great balance, commented Dugan. We hope she continues to do as well in proper races, but physically she really was the best filly in the sale to me, and she also has the pedigree. She will be trained by my husband Neil who has a long relationship with Coolmore. »

A full sister to Gr.3 Cumberland Stakes scorer STAR STORM, the chesnut is also closely related to the recent Cheshire Oaks heroine MEHDAAYIH, who is another granddaughter of Champion filly SAYYEDATI.« She will go back to Newmarket and race for Simon Scupham’s Bermuda Thoroughbreds, commented Warren. Simon is putting together a strong group of fillies and we came here looking for one that would develop into a nice three-year-old. We bought CLEARLY in this ring last December and she ran 3rd in a Group 2 on her Australian debut last week. He is also in AXANA who will be favourite for the German Guineas. This filly is all about next year for me. She is quite tall, galopped out very strongly and is was prepared by the best consignor in my view.
