Thomas Humphries from Columbia SC, makes sculptures out of recycled mediums, primarily metals and shells and his latest sculpture was made as a tribute to Anna Hyatt Huntington’s Fighting Stallions at the entrance to Brookgreen Gardens in Murrels Inlet SC.
He was honored by being asked to display this piece in Tryon NC at the entrance to the World Equestrian Games. It’s life-sized, 11’ H x 10’L , 1500 pounds, and took him over 4 years to complete.
It is something to see and is truly one of a kind that can’t be replicated! He stick welds every piece and puts a lot of love into it. He picks the metals up during his daily travels, he likes to say, every day is like an easter egg hunt.
We were on site with the sculpture several days and it was a treat to see how excited people were over it. There were thousands of pictures taken of it and posted on social media and he received such encouraging feedback.
Every time you look at it you see something different.
