The British Horseracing Authority, the single governing and regulatory body for British Horseracing, relies on its Veterinary Officers, both on and off racecourses, to safeguard the welfare of the racing thoroughbred and the integrity of horseracing.

We are currently looking to recruit a Veterinary Officer to join the existing team, working from home, based in Yorkshire. The Veterinary Officer role is a challenging regulatory role, working within the Equine Health and Welfare Department, and alongside highly experienced racing professionals.

The successful candidate will be an experienced equine veterinary Surgeon, eligible for registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and having a minimum of five years post qualification experience. Interest in the Thoroughbred and British Horseracing is key, combined with knowledge of relevant BHA Rules and Instructions and statutory guidance relating to veterinary integrity and equine welfare.

Applicants should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills allied with proven evidence of management and supervisory experience enabling successful interaction with professional colleagues, officials and racing’s participants. Other qualities essential for this position are a high level of discretion as you will working with confidential information. You should have exceptional time management skills and the ability to work to short deadlines.

Given the nature of the role, you will need to have a full valid driving license, preferably clean. You must be prepared to work with a high degree of flexibility, involving working unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays.
