There were plenty of nervous moments but Winx's backers need not have worried as the wonder mare claimed her 28th-consecutive win - and a 21st career Group 1 success - in the $500,000 TAB Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The daughter of Street Cry lived up to her tag as the world's best racehorse with brilliant final 400m, thundering home from near-last on the home turn to nab stablemate Youngstar and Kings Will Dream in the final 50m.

An emotional Chris Waller heaped praise on jockey Hugh Bowman, who remained calm during the run despite being forced to settle on the inside of other horses.

The superstar seven-year-old will now chase an unprecedented fourth-consecutive Cox Plate at The Valley on October 27.
