The Everest is the most exciting thorughbred racing event that Australia has launched in many years. Raced over 1200m at Royal Randwick during the Spring Carnival in Sydney, The Everest is worth an enormous $10 million dollars in prizemoney, making it the richest turf thoroughbred horse race globally.
Racing NSW has made The Everest a restricted and unique event, with connections having to buy their place (slot) into the field, with a 3 year commitment at $600k per year. These buyers will then be able nominate their own horse into the race, or negotiate with owners of other horses, cutting them into the action for a percentage of the prizemoney on offer. This amazing concept has as expected, attracted the cream or Australian and international racing talent.
With the Everest taking place in the the Middle of the Spring Carnival it’s expected that some horses will come via the AJ Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley a fortnight earlier, and then potentially go on the compete in the Manikato and Coolmore Stakes, and even the VRC Sprint Classic towards the end of the carnival.
